Terms of Service

The short version: Don't abuse the service, pay for what you use, you can cancel anytime, and we're not liable if your dog eats your transcripts. By using Write On, you accept these terms.
1. Acceptance
By creating an account or using the Write On macOS application or website (collectively, the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
2. The Service
Write On is a macOS application that records your voice and transcribes it into text in real time. The transcribed text is pasted into the application of your choice. The Service is provided by Ryan Anselman ("we", "us"), a sole proprietor based in Englewood, Colorado.
3. Your account
- You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
- You're responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.
- You're responsible for all activity that happens under your account.
- You agree to provide accurate and current information.
- One human, one account. You may not create multiple accounts to circumvent free-tier limits.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service to transcribe audio you do not have the legal right to transcribe (including audio of people who haven't consented to recording where consent is required by law)
- Use the Service to harass, abuse, or harm anyone
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract API keys or credentials from the application
- Resell or sublicense the Service without our written permission
- Attempt to bypass usage limits, rate limits, or billing controls
- Use the Service to violate any applicable law
5. Subscriptions and billing
- Free tier: Up to 15 minutes of transcription per calendar month at no cost.
- Pro Monthly: $9.99 USD per month, billed monthly until cancelled.
- Pro Annual: $79 USD per year, billed once per year until cancelled.
- Subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing period. You can cancel at any time from your account dashboard; the cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period.
- We may change pricing for new subscriptions with notice. Existing subscriptions keep their original price until cancelled or changed by you.
- Payment is processed by Stripe. You authorize us to charge your payment method for the applicable amount.
6. Refunds
See our Refund Policy. Briefly: we offer a 14-day full refund on any paid plan, no questions asked.
7. Termination
You can stop using the Service at any time. To close your account entirely, email support@write-on.app.
We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, abuse the Service, attempt fraud, or for any other reason that materially impacts other users or our ability to operate. Where reasonable, we'll give you notice and a chance to remedy first.
8. Intellectual property
Write On (the app, the website, the brand, the code we write) is our intellectual property. We grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the macOS application on devices you own or control, for as long as your account is in good standing.
Your transcripts are yours. We claim no ownership over the content you transcribe.
9. Disclaimer
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or perfectly accurate. Voice transcription is imperfect by nature; you are responsible for reviewing transcribed text before relying on it.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim arising from the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim arising from your use of the Service in violation of these Terms or applicable law.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Arapahoe County, Colorado, and you consent to that jurisdiction.
13. Changes
We may update these Terms occasionally. Material changes will be announced by email to active users at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms. The current version is always at write-on.app/terms.
